One thing I always read about Great Pyrenees is that they love to dig. Teddy only discovered his love of digging over the summer, when he started excavating the neighbor's foundation. It gave him a nice cool place to lay and over time, he forgot about that hole and the grass grew back.
Then, he started digging out our flower bed. Then he scraped off some grass behind the swing. Then he went back to the flower bed and dug out all the plants ("But I heard you say you hate weeding! I'm just trying to help!"). Then he started another hole near the fence near the front of the house. Then it was a shallow hole near his original hole.
His latest work can be seen on the right side of this photo.

He isn't digging because he's trying to get out. He isn't digging because he's bored. He's digging because it's fun. And maybe because it annoys me. Sometimes I think he's trying to create the moat I'm always threatening to get to keep the neighborhood's annoying 'tweens away.
He's also scraped a significant part of the grass off. It's been very rainy and his favorite game to play is "I want to run around in circles and bark while you pretend to chase me." It finally got to the point that I was afraid he was going to slide in the mud and break a leg.
The solution? Grass seed, covered with a layer of straw so that the whole thing is more solid. It's just like an adobe brick patio!
There is so much hay out there that I half-expected to look outside this morning and see a live re-enactment of a nativity scene. Or maybe just a few goats.

Great Pyrenees are not landscape designers

I was just today wondering about our less than grassy and mostly muddy terrain. I'm guessing that if I'm a little anxious to tale a brisk walk on it, Liza should be too. Also, the pretend you're chasing me game? Pretty popular around here too. Though she tries to disguise it with the "you can't get my ball" game.
Perhaps he could dig a soddy? For winter?
You really should try to get Teddy a book deal!
Has Teddy looked through the want ads for gardeners recently? I'm sure there's some good work out there for a good digger.
my cat Helicopter likes to dig too. Maybe they could go into business together!
GOATS!
Looks like you're ready for a horse. One more side and you've got a stall all ready to go!
