It is one of knitting's little jokes, I think, that just at the time that you have 1) rediscovered the joys of stashing yarn and 2) need to start a sweater for your sister for Christmas that suddenly you just don't feel like knitting.
I knit a pair of mittens while we were away. Here is a sneak peek:
It is only a sneak peek because they are blocking and I still need to do a bit of duplicate stitch as a finishing touch.
This is the sweater that my sister asked for for Christmas. I will very happily knit it for her because she is my sister and I adore her. Plus, she told me that I knit "really bitching things," which is a very high compliment, indeed. She may also earn herself a pair of socks at a later time for the tone of admiration in her voice when she said it.
Also! In the Joys of Stashing category, this is the yarn I bought on vacation:

Sea Star Hand Paints Barefoot in "Octopus."

Ellyn Cooper's Yarn Sonnets Zohar's Socks, "Purple Iris Swirl"
And lately I've been pouncing on the Madeline Tosh yarns we have at Natural Stitches:

Tosh DK in "Isadora"
And...um...this does not include the Tosh DK that I have on layaway at the shop in the Byzantine colorway. (HI HONEY) Yvonne said to me, "You know, I used to look to you as the voice of restraint." Yes. Well.
I have plans for all of it. As soon as I get this Christmas gift done. Yes

Sometimes I scare myself with the combined size of my three flavors of stash. I figure as long as we can all pay our bills and our own personal quantity of stash makes us happy, we're doing it right.
Pretty vacation acquisitions!
Look forward to seeing the mittens in their finished glory.
You have a very lucky sister indeed. Would you like to adopt me? I'd love to have someone knit me a sweater like that.
I totally get where you're coming from with the Tosh. I just bought 7 skeins of DK for a sweater, but I'm justifying the purchase because I had a discount and two gift cards. But still, that's not a cheap sweater, especially when I already have several sweaters' worth of yarn in the stash.
